One day and one addendum later

I would be amiss if I did not add to my example from yesterday the stunningly obvious and far more pertinent example of the use of leather and canvas in classic luggage.  I would say that the use of these two material to make classic bags, trunks, etc. is a far more fair a representation of why I have chosen the name of this blog and why I feel that it represents the style I will from here on out attempt to describe.

One detail above them all that stands out on a quality piece of luggage is the use of a rolled leather handle.  This is as definitive of classic luggage design as any and simply sets a tone of quality and simplicity.  The image below show the type of handle I am talking about, along with a doctors bag opening, the use of bridal leather straps, and brass fittings, and all from a top notch manufacturer.

I have also realized that this picture does not provide any scale, thus this bag might look like a purse, but it is in fact a piece of luggage, suitable for a weekend trip, or simply for laundry day, if one could be so lucky as to use this for such.

Here is another example, this time with both Leather & Canvas:

Well here goes...

I have never blogged before, but I keep finding myself noticing things more and more that fit into a particular style, a style I have yet to find a name for, but one that is defined by that timeless and perpetual combination of leather and canvas.

To give an example: think of interior design that utilizes rich dark brown leather and natural canvas upholstery, generally mixed with a rustic lodge motif (not overblown or kitschy), mission and craftsman style pieces, and Indian rugs.  This is not too woodsy and not to western, but could include tasteful use of taxidermy, yes dead animals!  Eclectic accents from around the world and those that show an interesting perspective on things are also a must.  I could go on in endless detail but this is simply an intro, something to start your imagination to wonder; and I'm sure you can identify with the images I'm evoking.

Considering the speed at which this world moves, I figure I should at least lock down this blog name before someone else grabs it. If this whole blogging thing works out I will add things over time that fit into this category and would love to hear from anyone out there in the so called "bloggisphere" that has any additional ideas or would like to contribute.

I am also a terrible speller and I'm oh so very aware of it, so if something slips by the spell checker, and I can guarantee that will happen, please just relax and let it fly.  All other criticism welcome
